What is voicemail?
Voicemail is a digital answering service that can take messages for you when you are unable to take calls. Voicemail allows you to listen to messages, to record a personal greeting and to enter and change personal settings. Voicemail is active even when your mobile phone is switched off. If someone has left you a voicemail message, you will receive an SMS telling you that you have a voicemail message. Messages that you have listened to are saved for 72 hours. You do not pay to receive voicemail messages in the Netherlands. You pay the normal call rate to listen to voicemail messages. When you are abroad, you pay the international rate and listen to voicemail messages.

How do I set up my voicemail?
Dial 1 2 3 3 and follow the instructions to record a personal message and to set up a PIN code. A personal message will let callers know that they have called the right person. If you do not record a personal message, callers will simply hear the telephone number they have called. The PIN code enables you to listen to your voicemail messages from abroad or from another phone.

How can I listen to my voicemail?
To listen to your voicemail from your mobile phone, dial 1 2 3 3. To listen to your voicemail from a different telephone: dial 061200 1233. In this case you will need your PIN code. To listen to your voicemail from your mobile phone abroad, dial +31 6 1200 1233. To listen to your voicemail from a landline abroad, dial +31 6 1200 1233. You will need the PIN code you set up in the Netherlands.

Listening to your voicemail from abroad
To listen to your voicemail with your mobile phone from abroad you need your PIN code which you activate in the Netherlands. Once you have entered your PIN code you will have direct access to your voicemail. Should you not have your PIN number with you, you can ask to have it sent to you via SMS message.

How it works
Voicemail abroad works exactly the same as in the Netherlands:

  • Dial 1 2 3 3 to listen to your messages
  • If that number doesn’t work, dial +316 1200 1233.

Please note: You will need a password to listen to your roaming voicemail. Activate this feature in the Netherlands:

  • Dial 1 2 3 3 on your mobile phone
  • Press * in the main menu to reach voicemail
  • Choose option 3 in the main menu (Personal Settings)
  • Next, choose option 1 (Change Password)
  • Enter a 4 digit code and finish by pressing the # key
  • The voicemail switchboard will repeat to confirm the password you chose
  • You can also arrange for your password to be sent via SMS message

Would you rather not receive voicemail messages while abroad? Then dial 1 2 3 3 and choose option 2 in the main menu (welcome messages) then choose option 3 (Report Absence).
