Getting started

How does it work?
Once you have bought an Ortel Mobile prepaid SIM card, insert it into your mobile phone and you are ready to start making and receiving calls in the Netherlands and abroad at extremely low rates! Your SIM card includes €7,50 call credit + €7,50 call credit after registration online.

To add call credit to your SIM card, simply buy top up cards online or in one of the many sales points in the Netherlands, including petrol stations, supermarkets and Telecom shops. Click here to buy online now.

What is a PIN code?
The SIM card is protected from unauthorized use with a PIN code of 4 digits. If you enter your PIN code incorrectly three times, the SIM card will automatically be locked.

Your PIN code is initially set to 0 0 0 0, but you are advised to change it (How do I set my PIN code?).

You will also need your personal PIN code to be able to listen to your voicemail from a different phone.

What is a PUK code?
Your PUK code is mentioned on the letter which you received with your SIM card. Do not throw this letter away, and keep it in a safe place. You will need the PUK code to unlock a locked SIM card and/or if you have entered the wrong PIN code three times.

I have lost my PUK code.  What shall I do?
If you have lost your PUK code, we may be able to retrieve it for you. You can send a request by e-mail to info@ortelmobile.nl, with the following information:

  • Your Ortel Mobile prepaid mobile phone number
  • Your SIM card number (on the back of your SIM card)
  • The last two telephone numbers you dialed
  • The details with which you registered your SIM card

We will send you your PUK code by e-mail within three working days.

How can I set up a personal PIN code?
We advise you to enter a personal PIN code to protect your SIM card from unauthorized use. You can set your own PIN code as follows:

  • Press * * 0 4 # followed by the current PIN code.
  • Press *, enter your new PIN code, press * again, and enter your new PIN code again.
  • Press the # button to confirm. You new PIN code is now set.

If you enter your PIN code incorrectly three times, the SIM card will automatically be locked. In order to be able to unlock it, please check What is a SIM lock and how do I remove it?

What is a SIM lock and how can I remove it?
There may be a SIM lock on your phone. This digital lock prevents you from making calls with your prepaid SIM card.

To find out if there is a SIM lock on your phone, insert your SIM card in your phone. If after you switch on the phone and have entered the PIN code you get the message ‘SIM refused’, your phone is probably SIM locked.

Your previous provider can easily remove it for you. If your phone is older than one year, this service is free of charge. If you have had your phone for less than one year, please ask your previous provider about the cost of removing the SIM lock. Your SIM lock can only be removed by your previous provider.
