How does it work if I go abroad?
With Ortel Mobile you can also make and receive calls while you are abroad. The rates for calling from abroad are shown at Tariffs If you want to call from abroad, you must have at least €3 call credit. Remember to take sufficient call credit with you when you go abroad. It is also easy to top up your call credit when you are abroad. See Topping up. You can call from abroad as follows:

  • Enter 00 or +
  • Enter the country code for the Netherlands. This is 31
  • Dial the area code (without the first 0) and the telephone number
  • Press the call button.

For example, if you want to call the Dutch number 070-1234567 from abroad:

  • Enter 00 or +
  • Enter 31
  • Enter the area code 70 and the telephone number 1234567
  • Press the call button

Can people call me when I am abroad?
An extra charge will apply if you receive calls while you are abroad. You pay part of the costs because the person calling you has no idea that you are abroad. You pay the cost of the call from the Dutch border to wherever you are. These costs will immediately be deducted from your call credit. To receive calls while you are abroad, you must have at least €3 call credit. Remember to take sufficient call credit with you when you go abroad. It is also easy to top up your call credit while you are abroad. See Topping up your credit.  People can reach you on the same mobile number while you are abroad as when you are in the Netherlands.

How do I send an SMS message while I’m abroad?

You can send SMS messages as you do in the Netherlands. For example, if you are in Turkey and you want to send a SMS message to a Turkish friend, whose phone number is 0541-123456. The country code for Turkey is 90.

  • Enter 00 or +
  • Enter 90
  • Enter the area code without the first 0 : 541
  • Enter the phone number 123456
  • Press the Send button

How can I call abroad?
You can call abroad easily and quickly, without any complicated procedures such as special access numbers.

  • Enter 00 or +, followed by the international country code.
  • Enter the area code without the first 0.
  • Enter the phone number.
  • Press the call button.

How can I top up while I’m abroad?
Please note that if you want to call from abroad, you must have at least €3,- call credit. Remember to take enough call credit when you go abroad.

When you are abroad it is possible that the short code 1244 which you normally use when topping up your mobile phone, does not work. You can then call to *100*1244#. Enter then the 15-digit top up code. This service is not free of charge and you need to have at least € 3,- remaining call credit to use this service while being abroad.
